Is the US a Christian Nation?

The United States is certainly a majority Christian nation, and has been since its founding. But are the U.S. government and the U.S. Constitution Christian? Did the Founders intend, and does the U.S. Constitution allow for the government to be to some degree Christian? Are the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution, based on biblical precepts?

These sorts of questions have been debated since the founding to the present day. How these are answered can have, among other effects, direct influence on the expenditure of public monies and the place of minority beliefs in our country.

The Jefferson Center is sponsoring a public talk on this topic Sunday, September 10 at 4pm at the Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, Ashland, Oregon 97520. Drinks, nibbles and conviviality at 4pm followed by the formal talk. There will be plenty of time for questions and comments afterward.
