How can you tell if something is "Balony" or not?
One place to start is to look at The Baloney Detection Kit: http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2012/03/16/baloney-detection-kit/

Make sure you watch the video.

Enjoy

Leaded gas and violence

Below is a link to an interesting article about a possible cause of the decline of violence in the US over the last few years.
As we all know, correlation does not prove causation. However... I found the article to be interesting and so have provided the link. Enjoy.

In addition, here is a link to Steven Novella's blog discussing the above article. His view and the comments are useful.

Evolution

Two of the three most profound discoveries we have ever made in science have to do with earth history. The three are, in no particular order, 1) the scale of the universe 2) the age of the universe and our home planet, and 3) the unity of life on Earth by descent from common ancestors. This blog invites comments and questions about the last two, how they are perceived by society, and what they imply for what we should be doing as a species.

We are here because we share a common set of values and (non) beliefs. What is your experience so far as a center member? How can we improve as a community?

Site developers' blog

This blog is for the developers of this proposed web site to test multi user blog capability, and to communicate ideas, Center member needs, and other implementation issues to each other. A Forum is better suited to this type discussion, so we closed this blog and opened several Forum areas for ongoing conversations.
